Logan Blackburn Race Report -17/11/2013
Auckland Champs – Harrisville

The Pukekohe track was looking awesome and I couldn’t wait to get out there.  Practice went smoothly for me I had some good lines and managed to put up the fastest time in my class. Qualifying 1st

Race 1

I got a great start got the hole shot but then Sean O’Connor Got around me on the outside it took me a lap to get passed him. Once I did that I had a clear track and I managed to pull a decent lead. Finishing 1st

Race 2

I got a really bad start this time in about 3rd to last around the first corner.  Caught up to 4th in the first 2 laps and was in behind Aaron Wilshire for a lap or so until I passed him. By this stage I had a big gap to get to 1st and 2nd. I managed to pull them in but didn’t have enough time in the race finished 3rd.

Race 3

This time I got another awesome start in 1st around the first corner. The track was really rough by this stage so I had to be cautious. Basically rode my own race to the finish line finished 1st.

Logan Blackburn Race Report -27/07/2013

Monster Energy Australian Nationals Round 7 Harvey Bay.

PRACTICE:

Practice went okay for me I had a good look at the sandy track and put in some fast laps. We were second to last practice so the track was already getting rough. Qualified 14th

Race 1:

First race got an amazing start in 3rd!! I managed to pass into second and then the 2 Yamaha team riders went by me and then I had no back brakes. Ended up riding the rest of the race with only front brakes in sand finishing 9th.

Race 2:

Got an alright start inside the top 10 caught my way up into 6th then AGAIN – no rear brakes!! It was even worse this time the track was very rough. Finished 15th.

I ended up in 11th place overall for the day, and have moved up to 8th overall in the series.

Thank you all for you support,

Logan

Logan Blackburn Race Report -14/7/2013

Monster Energy Australian Nationals Round 6 Appin NSW.

Hey everyone,

Just a brief on the weekends racing:

Practice: The track looked really cool and fun. I couldn’t wait to ride it. It was a clay track with a lot of jumps. Practice didn’t go as well as I had hoped but I got a good feel for the track.  Qualified 18th.

Race 1:  I got an alright jump out of the gate and around the first corner in 13th. Started to get in a good grove but couldn’t find any lines to get around anyone. Then I flew off the track with 3 laps to go. Finished 15th (frustrated)

Race 2:  I got a better start this time around the outside of everyone in 10th, I got in a good rhythm and found some good lines and rode smooth. I had a really good battle with Jesse Madden for most of the race finished 9th.

10th overall for the day and moved up to 8th overall for the series so far, there are still 4 rounds to go.

Thank you all for you support,

Logan

Logan Blackburn Update:

Just a quick update on what Logan has been up to.
He rode last weekend in the Queensland Cup in Townsville.  Three days of riding in 27-Deg heat.

He is currently sitting 9th (U19s) in the Monster energy Australian nationals, still has 5 rounds to go!

He competed in the MX2 class along side some of the top Australian riders.  He had a few crashes and was struggling with some new suspension,  he finished 7th overall for the weekend!!! Really happy with the placing but disappointed as he could have done a lot better if the bike had been handling better.  Although he is riding a stock standard YZ250!!! very few of them around over here.

Will Keep you upto date with his riding as best I can.

If you want to read more of Logans reports see below under Logan Blackburn

Rotorua Motorcycle Club’s 2013 Primary / Intermediate School Challenge, 13 April 2013

Wade Meredith

It was fun getting a chance to ride on the big track at Rotorua in the Rotorua Motorcycle Club’s 2013 Primary / Intermediate School Challenge.

There were 16 kids in my MX50cc 5-8 years class which was a good number to ride against.   I had a good practice and was second fastest.  I had a really bad start in the first race as my front wheel got stuck under the start gates so I was dead last off the line.  I managed to make my way back up to 5th place by the end of the race.  In the second race my start wasn’t good again as my friend Jakob and I bumped into each other when the gates dropped.  We both went a bit wobbly but luckily we didn’t actually fall off.

This time I made it to 4th place by the end of the race.  I was going into the third and final race tied on points for 3rd place with two other riders so I really wanted to get a good start!  Luckily I finally managed to start well and was second at the hole shot.  Then I managed to overtake the lead rider on the second lap and held onto first place to win the race.  The win meant I ended up in 2nd place overall and got to be on the podium!  Thanks to the Tauranga Motorcycle Club for sponsoring me.

Last Saturday we went to Rotorua to ride in the Rotorua Motorcycle Club’s

2013 Primary / Intermediate School Challenge.  It was fun being able to ride on the main track – I liked the jumps, the berms and the big straights.  I qualified 17th out of the 43 riders in my MX65cc 7-11 years class.  In the first race I got a good start and rode pretty consistently for the whole race to finish in 7th.  In the second race I got another good start but a rider crossed the track as we went down the first hill and took me out.  By the time I got my bike back up and got going again I was in last place.  I fought my way back to 22nd place by the end of the race.  In the last race I got a great start and was in 5th place but unfortunately I stalled my bike out the back so lost a position but managed to hold that spot to finish in 6th.  I ended up in 12th place overall for the day.  I was aiming for top 10 but the second race let me down.  Thanks to the Tauranga Motorcycle Club for sponsoring me.

Mini rider reports Summer Cross, 29th December 2012

Wade Meredith

I was happy that it wasn’t raining for us at Summer Cross on Saturday, instead it was really hot! I was riding in the 50cc 6-8 years MX class against 29 other riders. We walked the paddock track when we got to Awakaponga and I really liked it. At the start it was nice and smooth, but by the end of the day it had got a bit rutted and bumpy. I took it pretty easy in the practice and qualified 13th. For the races I got good starts all day and was round the first corner in the top group every time.

I came in 8th in my first race, picked up the pace a bit to take out 6th in the second race, then managed to squeeze a little bit more speed out at the end of the day and came home 5th in the third race. The best thing was I didn’t fall off once!! I ended up in 6th place overall and I was happy with that as most of the top riders in my class are 8 and I’m still 7.

I was a bit nervous about Summer Cross as this was going to be my first event in my new 9-11 age class on my 65cc KTM. There were 37 kids in my class, so we had a very full start gate. This meant the first corner was pretty packed as we all raced towards it and tried to get around. In the practice I took it pretty easy getting used to the track and qualified 17th. In the first race I got a good start but got smashed into the tape on the first corner. I made my way back to about half way through the field but then my back brake locked on in the second to last lap and I couldn’t ride. My dad ran over and kicked the bike a few times (!!) then managed to get it going enough so that I could ride slowly to the finish line without using my back brake. So, I got 35th in the first race which I was pretty gutted about.

Luckily Dad managed to get the brake problem sorted before race 2 and I managed to stay on and finished 12th. In the third and final race I had a great start and was having an awesome battle with my friend Sean Callinan. Sean got me on the jump in the attached picture and I ended up finishing in 3rd place with Sean in 2nd. I was stoked to get a top three placing. I ended up in 9th place overall for the day which I was happy with as I was hoping to make it into the top 10.

Rider reports from the Huka Honda Labour Weekend Extravaganza, 20th October 2012

Wade Meredith:

We went down to Taupo on Saturday for the Huka Honda Labour Weekend Extravaganza. This was the first time I had ridden at this event and I was riding with my big brother Sam in the 50cc 6-8 years MX class. I like riding the Taupo track because it’s nice and wide with some good fast straights and fun jumps. There were 18 kids riding in my class and my goal was to get in the top 10.

I got 9th in the first race which I was happy with for my first race of the day. Then in the second race I got tangled up with another kid and fell just after the start. Luckily I didn’t get hurt so jumped back on my bike and managed to make my way back to 10th from last place. I had an awesome last race, a great start and smooth fast riding the whole way to finish 5th. I ended up in 6th place overall which I was really happy with. The best thing was I got McDonalds as Dad had promised me that for dinner if I finished in the top ten!!

Sam Meredith:

I was looking forward to riding at the Huka Honda Labour Weekend Extravaganza as I really like racing on the Taupo track. This was going to be my last race in the 50cc 6-8 years MX class because I turn nine before the next big event and move onto a 65, so I wanted to do well. I had a good ride in practice and qualified in 2nd place which I was happy with. I was on fire in the first race and led from start to finish. It was great to get to that chequered flag first!!

The second race went just as well as the first. Everything was going great and I finished in 1st place again. Then disaster struck at the start of race three. I didn’t get out of the start gates fast enough so I tried to get through a gap between two other riders when we got to the first corner. The gap closed in on me and I ended up at the bottom of a big pile up. I hurt my arm and my butt, but Dad ran over and said “come on buddy, you’ve got to finish, it’s your last race”. I got back on my bike and after a couple of slow laps, I raced really hard and got back to 8th place from dead last. I was gutted that I fell off, but as people have said, that’s racing. Because I managed to finish the last race, I ended up with enough points to hold 2nd place overall.
